Claypotts Castle

You can't go inside Claypotts Castle except by appointment, but it's an elegant and impressive tower house even from the outside. The 16th century, Z-plan castle is also much easier to reach than your average Historic Environment Scotland property: the lawn surrounding the property backs directly onto Dundee's ring road. This does detract from the atmosphere a little but it's maybe fortunate that it still exists at all - several other historic buildings in Scottish urban areas haven't fared nearly so well!
