Mugdock Castle

[Mugdock Castle]

Mugdock Castle is by far the more interesting of two ruined castles within the boundaries of Mugdock Country Park. Built in the 14th century by the Graham family, more recent modifications and expansions created a residence with a sizeable footprint, including a chapel, large domestic ranges and walled gardens. Parts which survive are a confusing mix of wings and rooms from several different centuries; the highlight is one of the original towers, which is open on summer weekends with restored rooms and info panels. Climb up to the very top for fine views over the park, Glasgow and the Campsie Fells.
