Catterline & Fowlsheugh

Aberdeenshire | Catterline | Village & nature reserve | ★★★★

A few miles south of Stonehaven, narrow lanes branch off from the scenic A92, giving access to the tiny fishing villages of Catterline. A swish seafood restaurant - the Creel Inn - sits high above the picturesque bay and intimate harbour, and that's just about all there is to the place. If Catterline is quiet, RSPB Fowlsheugh a mile to the north is the complete opposite; this nature reserve welcomes over 130,000 seabirds (including guillemots, razorbills and the odd puffin) every summer to the cliffs nearby along with the associated stink.
