Pulpit Hill (Oban)

Argyll & Bute | Oban | Viewpoint | ★★★

[Oban from Pulpit Hill]

There are two standout viewpoints over the bustling port town of Oban. McCaig's Tower is the most obvious spot, but with a little more effort you can reach the quieter and equally beautiful panorama at Pulpit Hill. Well-signposted paths and wynds head uphill from the south end of the harbour area through a hilly residential suburb, with the viewpoint about 500 metres away as the crow flies (though it feels further given the steep terrain). Pulpit Hill's name suggests that the summit was once used by ministers to preach sermons to outdoor congregations - some of the local road names appear to back this up.

[The hill is a great place to watch the ferries coming in and out of Oban Bay]

💬 The viewpoint is a 20-min steep uphill walk from the town centre on a mix of minor roads and tarmac paths. You can also drive to the top.
